About Pro-Study
Transforming how students research, organise and excel in their academic journey
The Idea
After years of working alongside students as Assistive Technology Trainers, we saw the same barriers again and again: disorganised research, too many browser tabs, lost sources, and work scattered across multiple Word documents. These challenges were especially tough for students with additional needs.
Pro-Study was born out of a simple realisation - no other tool made it easy to collect, organise, and reference research all in one place. So we built one.
What Pro-Study Does
Pro-Study is an all-in-one tool that helps you collect, organise, and reference your research. Whether you’re working on an essay, a report, or revising for exams, Pro-Study supports you from start to finish:
📥 One-click capture from websites, files, textbooks and YouTube
🎯 Colour-coded categories to stay organised
🔎 OCR and Research Assistant for extracting key info
🔖 Automatic referencing using ISBN/DOI look up tool

And it’s designed with accessibility in mind - inclusive, intuitive and supportive for students with SpLDs, ADHD, autism, and more.
How We Did It
(Student-Led Development)
We didn’t build Pro-Study for students - we built it with them.
By working closely with students and running regular focus groups, we created a tool that reflects their real challenges, habits, and goals. We continue to develop Pro-Study with feedback at its core, so the software evolves as your needs do.

Study Journeys with Pro-Study
Every student’s journey is different, and so are the challenges they face. Pro-Study helps simplify research, boost confidence and save time. Here’s how two students used it to take control of their study:
Jamie
Jamie, a Theatre Studies student, found his dyslexia made it difficult to remember where he’d read useful quotes for his dissertation. Using Pro-Study from the start, he organised his research into categories and bookmarks, making it easy to track sources. When it came to writing, he could export everything into a Word document with a full bibliography - saving time and reducing stress.
“In my final year, I had to complete a literature review for my dissertation. My dyslexia impacts my working memory and I often forget where I’ve read quotes to add to my work. Using Pro-Study allowed me to categorise everything I’d read, right from the initial research stage all the way through to referencing. Having everything easily accessible in a Word document alongside a completed bibliography definitely took out the stress of writing, and it is so easy to use.”
Becky
Becky lives with ADHD and anxiety, both of which affect her ability to stay focused when juggling long academic reading lists. She often found referencing overwhelming, especially when trying to gather citation details from multiple sources under pressure. The constant switching between tabs, searching for author names and formatting styles made her feel stuck, even when she had the content ready. That changed when she started using Pro-Study.
“Referencing used to undo all my hard work. I’d waste hours tracking down ISBNs or fixing formats, and it really knocked my focus. With Pro-Study, I just scan a barcode or drop in a DOI and the reference is done for me - properly formatted, no stress. The Research Assistant also picks out key points so I don’t get overwhelmed by long texts. It’s taken the pressure off and given me more time to actually write.”
